Constellation Brands Buys Ballast Point

Exactly!

It’s easy for someone on the outside to call them sell outs, but I’m willing to bet that none of them would turn down a $1B offer.

Hell! That is life changing money. Never have to work another day in your life money. You’d almost be stupid not to take it.

+2.

Even if the individuals get a fraction of $1B it’s worth it for them. Let’s keep in mind that a humongous portion of that money is going to things that have nothing to do with the brewers pockets.

I would sell out too, but, I still find the below quote compelling. I found this when googling Fezziwig of Sam Adams Old Fezziwig fame.

Fezziwig: “It’s not just for money alone that one spends a lifetime building up a business…. It’s to preserve a way of life that one knew and loved. No, I can’t see my way to selling out to the new vested interests, Mr. Jorkin. I’ll have to be loyal to the old ways and die out with them if needs must.”

I think part of why there’s not much fuss on this board is folks here appreciate good beer, wherever it comes from. I’m with most folks on here, I don’t like certain brewing companies (AB), but that still won’t stop me from occasionally buying Pilsner Urquell, which is an excellent beer.

Anything beer related is more interesting than reading about a lot of other nonsense available in the world. But its pretty rare that I find the energy to be all lathered up over some business deal. At some point the commercial craft beer nerd scene sounds like two kids arguing about whose Dad can beat up the other.

We’ll talk about just about anything here, but if you really want a good rate-beer styled mosh pit you’ll find it lacking here.

I think that’s exactly why many of us are on here.

Exactly!  But the stirplate vortex mosh pit? Thats another matter lol

Yeah, I kinda let myself get carried away on that one…not entirely proud of that either.

Well you won’t see me throwing any first stones. Hopefully

I haven’t seen anything that credibly reports the distilling operations as excluded from the sales.

"It also bought access to the Ballast Point Spirits trademark, a potentially lucrative component of the deal and something McGrew said would “absolutely be a point of emphasis going forward.”

Constellation will not, however, take ownership of Ballast Point’s individual spirit brands like Fugu Vodka and Devil’s Share Whiskey. The rights to those properties have been relinquished and will be independently owned by White and chief operating officer Yuseff Cherney. White and Cherney plan to establish and co-own a new, yet-to-be-named distillery, the equipment for which is currently housed inside one of the company’s four brewery locations."

I would venture a guess that Ballast Point branded spirits are more valuable than the actual spirits Ballast Point produced that are getting spun off. With the intellectual property for Ballast Point spirits Constellation can buy bulk spirits and package them under the Ballast Point name and/or build in a new distilling operation.
