COTY Rules

So this one slipped by me this year (not hard to do mind you).

Homebrew Club Award Points
Based on input from the AHA Governing Committee’s Competition Subcommittee, the method for awarding the NHC Homebrew Club Award is changing. Starting with the 2016 competition, only the points from medals earned in the Final Round will be tallied to determine the winning club. Tiebreaker rules for this award have also been added. Please read Part IV Judging & Awards for the details.

Under these rules, the Austin Zealots would have won last year, with the usual suspects Quaff, St. Paul, etc. in the mix.  What was nice is the Whales and the Lincoln Lagers were really close too.  Maybe this will be the solution for a while until it’s the same club winning year after year.

It will be nice to not hear booing at the Banquet for a while too.

Thoughts?

If you look at the clubs that have won, there are long streaks.
Sonoma Beerocrats (I think that is the name).
QUAFF
St. Paul
Brewing Network

I support the new rules, though with difficulties winning any medals, and no minimum entrants/winners for the award, I wonder how well it’ll go over when eventually one elite brewer or meadmaker wins COTY by themselves.  shrug

I say good for them!

It is better than some of the other ideas/suggestions that were floating around.

Now let’s hope that they look at how it goes this year and tweak accordingly.

Agreed.  I think this is about as fair a first step as they can take.  We’ll see what happens this year.

Thanks everyone!

Good discussion, and I like the support for the changes we are implementing.

Cheers,
Janis
