I ferment in a glass and have always been in the habit of covering the carboy to protect it from the light. In the end, does this protection from the sun really matter?
Yes, it matters, but it matters more the lighter the color. In order to become light struck (skunky) it needs to be light penetrable, have hops and have a byproduct of fermentation (riboflavin).
I cut a small hole in the bottom of a brown paper shopping bag and cover my carboy with it. (With the bag, not the hole.)
I have had a glass of beer get light struck out doors in a matter of minutes in low level sun light. You wouldn’t want that to happen to your entire carboy of beer! Definitely best to keep it covered.
I agree about tapatalk making it easier if you have a picture on your phone to post. If someone doesn’t have a smartphone or the picture is elsewhere its not very intuitive though. If I want to post a picture with more than a little text I actually type the text on a pc and post with tapatalk.
Not sure, I have tapatalk on android. If I have a picture on my phone I want to post all I have to do is start a post either by replying or new topic (if you use “quick reply” you need to hit the + sign to get the options) then hit the camera icon. From there the phone gives me options on how to access the picture and then select the picture.
