I’ve been to Denver before, but I’d like to get some suggestions on taprooms/restaurants to not miss. I really don’t care about a brewery tour, but like eclectic brewery taprooms or taprooms which should not be missed. On our last trip it was cold and snowy part of the time and it was a whirlwind. This time we have a longer schedule, but Wed night we are at Wynkoop and Thurs at GABF.
We have been to Falling Rock and Hops & Pie and several other joints. I have Freshcraft on my hit list, but what else is a must visit in Denver and the surrounding areas?
Bierstadt Lager House has opened, if you like German beers. The brewing team that open Prost is behind this new German place. When they were at Prost they made some excellent examples.
I was at Freshcraft last week and didn’t think it was anything to write home about. The beer selection is pretty typical for CO beer bars and the food is mostly just bar food. Look up Pint’s Pub, they do some really good British pub food and brew on site, including a couple beer engines. They also have 300 single-malt whiskies if you’re into that sort of thing. LowDown would be a short walk from there and has a more modern American menu. If you’re up for a short hop on the light rail, Declaration brewing is right across from Evans Station in an awesome outdoor patio space. I think they usually have a food truck and there’s all kinds of stuff on that stretch of Broadway that you could carry in.
Station 26 is not close to where you will be, but was started by a guy who used to be on the forum. A friend who recently moved to the Denver area says they make really good beer.
Station 26 is excellent, But yea a little out of the way. Lowdown food/pizza is terrible. De Steeg on Tennyson is a hidden gem. Freshcraft has a good beer list but food is just avg as is most of denvers food scene. You could hit up Union station, which has a mix of restaurants/tap houses. Euclid hall is cool if your not looking for a brewery. Also look into rino district.
We tend to land on the foodie side, but white tablecloth is not our scene. It’s more about flavors and interesting dishes. I’d much rather have a great bowl of Pho than a huge steak. Of course a place with a solid beer list and a great menu would be the cat’s meow! Based on the suggestions it seems we might just have to go with some Yelp suggestions on the food.
Put this on the FB question you had, but The Post in Lafayette had some really good food, and beer. Brian Selders, previously at Dogfish Head, is the brewer. You would need a car or Uber to get there.
I liked the beer at 4 Noses up in Broomfield, but I think they use food trucks.
Both excellent suggestions if you’re willing to endure Denver traffic. 4 Noses is food truck only. If you’re already in Lafayette you may want to consider extending your trip up to Boulder. Avery’s new location is worth seeing and the taproom beers are excellent. Boulder has a solid set of breweries as well.
In Denver Crooked Stave is a worthwhile trip (for sour beer) and if you’re there you’re right across the street from Great Divide’s second location. Epic has a location down the block and Beryl is around the corner. Beryl’s beers are not all knockouts but they do some interesting things.
