Dryhop clump oops!

Not really thinking, I dumped a clump of pellets in for dryhopping and heard the clunk of them hitting the bottom.

I cannot agitate the not do I want to for fear of oxidation.

Think I should dump in some more hops this time broken up?

Hopefully they’ll dissolve over time. If they were pressed together in a canister, they probably wouldn’t. If loose, hopefully they will. !

Yes, I think so

I just dry hopped mine.  I gave it one swirl after closing it back up.

You may or may not need to dry hop again.  Did the hop pellets smell fresh when you opened the package?  The pellets clumping into a block may mean they were exposed to air and moisture degrading the freshness.  The pellets will break apart with saturation but the quality may not be at the fullest potential.

Vacuum sealed and frozen, mine are always clumped together.

Long-handled spoon or racking cane?

In a conical you can blow CO2 in the bottom to suspend them. Not in a conical, I assume?

No it is - I had not thought of that!

I’ll give them a day to saturate and then hook that up.

Thanks!!!

2 PSI should do the job.

I got the idea some time ago from some thing Vinnie Cilurzo said about getting the hops back in suspension. He deserves the thanks.

Edit - yes, I have done this.

Edit 2 - after a while you don’t think much about hooking up CO2 to the top or bottom of a conical.  ;D

Beat me to it, I’ve done that through the Out tube on a keg. It doesn’t take much, just enough to hear it moving.
