Equipment Cleaning Agents

I have always used One Step for my equipment cleaning needs. Looking to try another cleaner.
With that said, what do you use?

Craft Meister Oxygen Brewery Wash - 5 lb

Bar Keepers friend soft cleaner

Cheers

PBW.  I’ve tried using Oxyclean in the past, but I’ve never had the same results as PBW.

My $0.02

Oxyclean<PBW<Craft Meister Alkaline

Those work on organic material.

For beer stone and mineral buildup you need an acid.

Barkeeper’s Friend or a Beer Stone remover.

PBW - I’ve tried others with limited success.  For what it’s worth, Amazon sells an 8 pound container for $56.

Craftmeister Alkaline Wash - it works at any temperature.  Beer Stone Remover or Dairy Acid for oxalate buildup.

PBW or TSP.

The fermenter is the only item that has caked-on crud. I rinse it with hot water and scrub off anything left with the heal of my hand or a washcloth. It’s perfectly clean as far as I can see. Then I fill it with a generic OxiClean solution and soak it overnight, with tubing and other items in it. The combination of mechanical cleaning and OxiClean seems to work really well.

I assume your fermenter is not stainless:

Cleaning FAQ – Ss Brewtech FAQ's.

Or Alkaline brewery wash, which is even better.

This is the best I’ve found. I’ve been through Oxiclean and PBW and ended up with ABW. You can get cheaper cleaners but you  can’t get a better one.

No - it’s plastic. But OxiClean should be fine for stainless afaik.

ABW is safe for plastic

Oxiclean needs warm water to work well and doesnt work as quickly as PBW, but I use oxiclean for the price. It does the job

I forget why I settled with the oxygen brewer wash.
What I do remember is researching extensively and couldn’t decide between the two.
I emailed national chemicals/craftmeister about the two regarding what I was cleaning/soaking,
speidel fermenter, tubing.
They didn’t pick one with ramblings, and said both would work well.

Cheers

Actually oxygen based cleaners are problematic for soaking stainless.  That was the link I attached -  SS Brewtech warning against O2 cleaners on their stainless products.  YMMV, of course.

I didn’t get that out of your link.  There were some concerns with using OxiClean with high levels of Calcium in the water, but that was the only warning I saw.  Maybe I missed something.

I only use oxygen brewery wash to soak Speidel HDPE fermenters (& bottles),
and only Barkeepers Friend soft cleanser for SS brew kettles.
My standard SOP for every batch, and everything stripped down, cleaned,
then rinsed with Iodophor, and air dried on towel until next batch.

Sorry about that - it references chlorine, not O2.  I stand corrected on that point, but I still prefer the alkaline cleaner from Craftmeister.

Unfortunately a lot of homebrew shops don’t carry it. Where did you get yours?
