After spending parts of the last two days cleaning bottles, I realized I very much like the shape of the Boulevard 12-oz. bottles–the gradual taper and longish neck strikes me as stylish. Anybody want to recommend any others–of all sizes? For bombers, I like the Samuel Smith square-shouldered ones.
Orval is by far my favorite bottle. Love the teardrop shape.
Makes me think bowling pin
Westmalle hands down.
I used to like Michelob bottles. They hurt when smashed on your forehead though.
green 1 liter Cantillon bottles
I like the 500ml weizen bottles for that style of beer only. Other than that I don’t mess around with 12oz bottles in favor of larger 24 & 32 oz type bottles for beer I want to share around with my friends.
Also, flip-tops are fun to use and serve out of. And the larger stubby necked German liter bottles are pretty attractive to me, but I’ve never seen any in the States.
I’ve got some Dogfish Head 25 ounce bottles.
Nothing fancy, but I like Sierra Nevada stubbies for my beer gunning of extra beers.
+1. I do love those stubby bottles. Jolly Pumpkin has a sister brewery called Up North Brewing (I think). Somehow they distribute to a bottle shop down here. Their bottles are similar to Session Lager bottles (those gernade looking things) but more stylish. Very cool/unique bottle design if you can find it. Also agree re: Boulevard. One of my favorite American brewed saisons and a good bottle design. Win win.
My favorite size is the heavy pint size, but I have very few. I normally bottle in 750ml size. 12oz is useless for me, unless it’s something imperial. When I drink I want 2 pints!!
I like the 500ml weizen bottles a lot. They are a good size for beers that I intend to share because they pour at good sharing intervals. Thankfully I had the good sense to keep all the ones I obtained when I used to drink a lot of weissbier several years ago.
I also really like the narrow Beligan 375ml bottles like what Leffe comes in. Not really sure why. I just think they look classy especially with a big heavy beer in them.
But my bottle supply includes pretty much every bottle shape and size out there.
One of the few bottles I have kept on the display shelf.
Never would put my beer into green glass, but the bottle is truely unique!
I love bottles where I already removed the labels. Otherwise I love the ones where the labels slide right off as soon as they get a little bit wet.
Cheers.
I like Guinness Extra Stout bottles. 12oz and pint.
Boulevard bottles are cool, as are the Leffe bottles.
Anything different, really. Though some of them are a PITA to cap correctly.
For shape, I like the Anchor bottles. They have a classic feel. Sierra Nevada stubbies are nice but they don’t fit well in normal cases and 6 holders.
For a while, when I needed a bunch of bottles, my buying decisions on beer were heavily influenced on ease of label removal. Sierra Nevada is good for that as well.
Didn’t Anchor switch to twist-offs? Or did they switch back?
I haven’t bought any in ages. Well, that’s not true, I have a bunch in cans. Not my favorite beer.
+1. Yeah it’s harder to pour and leave the sediment behind, but I like the oldschool shape.
I’ve been saving my Fullers bottles along with my Trappist bottles lately. I probably have 4 cases of Chimay, Rochefort, Westmalle and Orval bottles at this point and maybe a six pack of fullers empties.
I like the Grolsch bottles and any swing tops I can get. I still have a couple dozen of them when they were brown. They must be 30 years old or more. I almost never bottle anymore except from the keg, and the swing tops make bottling from the keg easy.
