Hey guys, after 7 years of brewing, I’m thinking of brewing my first ever IIPA soon. Partly because I’ve never made one, partly because now that I can keg I don’t worry about hop aroma going kaputs on me, and partly because I have hops to use up. Just wanting to get a second opinion on the hop combination to make sure I’m not crazy. Here it is:
^^^ Sugar is a must in IIPA, to avoid the cloying finish of some of the lesser examples. I use a lb in 5 gallons.
Also, OP you’re way light on late hops. This is the beer to get a ton of late hop character. I’d double the keg amounts, as well as the flameout amounts, EXCEPT that I’d take the flameout additions and wait to add them until you’ve cooled the wort to 175F, then let them steep (stirring every few minutes) for 45 minutes. Just my $0.02 .
Definitely a hop combination for a unique IIPA. Jarrylo is an unusual hop. Lots of banana but in a banana candy way that a lot of people don’t like. I’ve used it in combination with other hops and liked it enough to drink what I made but probably not a hop I plan on buying again.
