Founders all day IPA

Anybody have idea on the hops in this one?

Crystal, Simcoe & Amarillo I believe.  I think there was a recipe in Zymurgy last year.

Edit: July/August 2014.

I knew about the Amarillo and Simcoe. Didn’t know about the Crystal, though. I remember the article vaguely. Amarillo and Simcoe are great together - very complimentary.

I brewed that one last summer and I think it’s pretty close.  I would probably mash higher though.

Don’t know about the hops but I would double the malt amounts.[emoji6]

+1 ( ;D )

Below 5% I don’t mind when crushing several…but the simcoe was too much for my liking.

I agree. Especially refreshing when doing yard work in the hot sun. Smaller ABVs is also a must when cutting and splitting firewood! Safety first!

Agree with smaller ABV but for me that doesn’t work with the American IPA style. I would much rather have an English mild or something. That much hops needs more malt. Personal preference, hate the style, love the brewer.

I have to agree with you, Pete. I don’t hate it like you do, but not in love either. Just not enough malt base under it. I think the better solution is the ‘hoppy APA’. 1.055/45 IBU-ish  - less bitterness, more malt base, but whirlpool several oz of hops, then dry hop and you get a nice dose of hop flavor and aroma. Way superior and ‘sessionable’ enough for me.

Might as well make it gluten free AFAIC.

Something about it rubbed me wrong way…was hoping it would be better.

I think it’s a tad bit sweet.  I like the hops though.

Well, like it or love it this beer is working well for Founder’s and is the driving force behind their 35 MILLION dollar expansion. Wish I brewed a beer I hated this much.

Quality is great like their other beers. Poor choice of words on my part- should have said wished I liked it better…

They market it very well. And the fact that it comes in 15 pack cans is great. I’m never going to sit down and have one of these in the evening, but if I’m trying to be productive outside, tailgating, going to a concert, etc, this is the ticket for me. It’s my new Miller Lite  :stuck_out_tongue:
