German Pils recommendations

Looking for German brewed German Pilsners. Any recommendations? Almost picked up some Bitburger just because I had heard of it…no idea if it’s supposed to be good.

look for konig, spaten, Weihenstephaner Pils.

EDIT- and for a little more dry, crisp and bitter…give bitburger premium a try.

Thanks!

you guys get Spaten Pils by you, Ken?  we only get the premium lager/helles.  never had the Pils.

Jever is also a good one, but the last time I bought it, it was unbelievably skunked.

nothing wrong with Bit.

“Bitte ein Bit?” No thank you.

(caveat: I’m Belgian)

I like all those when fairly fresh.  As always though, it’s a crap shoot to get them in decent condition.  The last time I had Jever I felt like it was the best German pils I’d ever had.

It’s not for everyone. I like the really dry bitter finish that it has.

Like everything, fresh is the key…and that’s hard to do sometimes here.

Haven’t looked here lately, but in nyc and Chicago when I travel I can always find it.

Bitburger’s not bad…it’s my go to, cheap summer beer.  My favorite German pils, by a long shot, is Trumer.

+1 on trumer…one of the best German pils… I would have mentioned it but OP said he wanted German brewed.

Is this one you guys can find in your area now ?  I’ve never seen it.  I’ll definitely be looking if so.

I am confused. I see that it is brewed in Berkeley, CA. Are they German and just have a brewery in the US? It would probably be easier for me to find that nice and fresh I suppose.

I believe originally Austrian- Berkeley is usa production

Not seen it in stores here. Chicago, Denver and Portland trips I can find it. That’s the Berkeley ca production.

ok that makes sense. thanks

Cool. Being fairly close to Chicago, I’ll keep an eye out. Thanks.

It is German brewed.  The brewery in Berkeley opened long after the German brewery.

its really good stuff.

There’s also Heisenberg Pils-made from the finest German pilsner and light munich malts. Bittering and aroma hops with Perle and Select Spalt . The finest German Lager yeast, makes this authentic crisp German Pilsner a crowd favorite. 38 IBU, 5.8%abv. (end of shameless plug  8) )

I can find it at a number of places here.

i wasnt sure if you were consuming the CA production or Austrian…I know the Berkeley is likely the one he can find;not sure about Austrian import availability.
