No affiliation, I just figured we aren’t likely to see used cornies this cheap again. I may pick up a few even though I don’t know what I need them for.
It was easy to find kegs in that condition twenty years ago. It’s sad to see what is going for good money in home brew shops today.
I am only purchasing new kegs these days, but I may pick up one or two of these things for NHC 2016. All but one of my current stable of soda kegs are 3-gallon kegs. The one 5-gallon keg that I own is too pretty for that kind of duty.
The price of our hobby’s success, I suppose. I picked up my first few cornies for $5 apiece. Granted, they were filthy (one still had Dr. Pepper in it) and I had to replace the gaskets myself, but when I see used kegs for $80 I cringe.
Wow, 5 bucks. I remember buying several @ $10 that I reconditioned - a few of them were in horrendous shape. Not sure I ever bought one under $10, though.
My lowest was $25 a keg a couple years ago. Thankfully, we have more than we need now so while these sales are tempting, I would have room for any new ones!
AiH was buying used cronies from China for a few years. Those were US made, and had been sent to China when the U.S. Went bag in a box for soft drink syrup. They were used in the U.S. fast food franchises in China like Pizza Huts. When China went brew in a bag, they were bought and shipped back for the homebrew trade. I have one with some Chinese characters stenciled on it.
