Hennipen

I snagged a bottle of this while at the grocery store the other night. I’m not a fan of Belgians at all. I’m really trying to come around to them, and the word “hoppy” on he bottle caught my eye. Maybe this will be my gateway drug.

So … where’s your review?  :stuck_out_tongue:

I give it a solid “meh”…  Kinda remained me of PBR.  (flame suit on)

How drunk were you???

Ban him now

I can understand not liking Belgians (I mean, I guess I can. I can understand you have poor taste  :P) but PBR???

I had this beer for the first time this past summer and really liked it.

Nicely balanced. Slightly fruity. Nice frothy head. Thirst quenching.

Here’s a good look at it.

Honestly, I would have rather spent the 6 bucks on hops. I got half  bottle left. Who wants it?  ;D

strange - I never woulda thought about hoppy with Hennepin.  sounds like marketing term du jour as opposed to reality.

Hennepin is meh, in my book.  Lagunitas Farmhouse Ale is a bit better, but I do not pretend to know that style well.

Ommegang’s Witte is fantastic though - odd to spend 6 bucks on a bomber of it when you can make 12gal of tasty wit for less than $40 (including all propane, etc costs).  but it is a GREAT representation of the style.  Don’t let Hennepin turn you off of them.

It’s an OK saison. Pretty good. I don’t know about “Meh”. That said, maybe “meh” as I never buy it and pass it up for other beers in a heart beat. But it ain’t nothing like no PBR. Know that, sonny boy.

I think I was just schooled by Major. How dare he. I am the Weaze!

you get schooled by everybody…that’s why we like having you around…

lol!

It’s a good saison IMO. When thinking about it, hoppy isn’t even close to coming to mind though.
To be honest, it was Hennipen and also their Witte that got me introduced to the world of good beer and eventually lead me to brewing. So for me, it’ll always be special

Saaaaaaa…nap!

Hennipen is a decent Saison.

I like their Abbey Ale -I think just called Ommegang  Brewery Ommegang – Where Heaven met earth ... and stayed awhile. - Brewery

La Fin Du Monde is a great place to start your belgian lovin’

I just had a Hennepin for the first time in a long time. Is it just me or does this seem a lot closer to a golden strong than a saison? Don’t get me wrong, I love the beer, but it seems a lot more estery and not quite as dry as I generally expect from a saison. It’s a lot closer to Duvel than to any saison I’ve had.

I have always thought this as well, at least in a side by side with DuPont or some of the Stillwater examples I’ve had.

I like it. Maybe a little to clean for my vision of a saison. Just too pricy. And Tintin is on the label somewhere IIRC.

When I get back will have to splurge on a bottle.

Whoa, zombie thread!  I like Hennipin.  I’ve heard many sources call this style hoppy but I don’t get that.  Maybe hoppy for a French or Belgian beer?  I really like this style and have had some that are estery and others not as much.  Le Merle from a North Coast was a little estery and Boulevard Tank 7 not as estery.  Mother’s Brewing from Speingfield, MO just released a Farmhouse as their spring seasonal.  At 5.6% abv its also sessionable.  I’ve actually never had DuPont.  That stuff is in a green bottle, right?  I realize its supposed to be representative of the style but I figured the Tank 7 and others would be fresh.
