The club I am in is interested in pouring this year. How many kegs is typical for a shift? Also, are club typically only pouring a single shift, or do they request multiple shifts per club pouring?
When I did it we used to say: “4 kegs per shift”. These day that number’s toasted. Seattle we blew through ~10 kegs in our shift.
Most clubs will only pull one shift and if your club is small, you can request being paired up with another small club as well.
If memory serves we blew through 6 back in 2010. We had an additional 12 for club night. The Barons are also thinking about serving as well but we want to see who all ends up getting into the conference before putting too much into motion.
does it mean I’m watching too much Iron Chef if this phrase causes me to hear the theme in my head?
Yes. In an attempt to get it out of your head read this - Theme from Charlie Brown cartoons. You should now be hearing piano music.
Thanks, I’ll be hearing the Charlie Brown theme for the rest of the day now.
Watch what shift you are signed up/scheduled to serve. In Cinn., we did 11 AM Sat. Went thru 10 kegs. In Philly, we had 12 kegs, same time frame, went home with most of the beer. The difference is that the Mitch Steele seminar was going on at the same time as our shift. By the time it ended, the Hospitality shift changed and we had to get off the taps. In Cinn. we didn’t have that competition and IIRC the shift was a little longer.
BTW Bruce B, thanks pal for the mind music
Last year the AHA provided three 12-tap systems for the Social Club (aka Hospitality Suite), so there was usually three clubs pouring 12 beers all the time, although some clubs served on two systems. The amount of beer that you will go through will depend a lot on when your club’s shift is during the SC. In Philly, we were the only club to serve two separate shifts, but there were 2 or 3 clubs that served on two systems at the same time.
Early on, I was in a group talking near the taps. One in the group was Gary Glass. He said those tap systems were put together by the AHA, and will be at future conferences to pour at the Social Club. You can plan on those.
Thanks all. I think I’ll plan on 13 give or take. Now we just have to get guys to commit to brewing, sign up for the conference, and get us signed up to pour at the suite, and somehow manage to get 6-8 guys to MI with a 16 hour drive ahead of us. No problems-piece of cake-lets do this-I call the bed by the window…
