Ideas on what to do with lousy Amarillo hops

Hi all.
Recently purchased 8 oz bag of Amarillo (BSG) that did not smell like Amarillo, Not the usual fragrance at all, to my nose they are grassy and vegetal and maybe weakly floral. Asked the LHBS for a replacement which they graciously provided but they smelled the same, also BSG. I’m afraid to use them and I am looking for ideas on what I could possibly do with them. Bittering only? BTW, no idea what the crop year or harvest date is.

Toss them. Why compromise the other ingredients and your time?

Do they smell bad or just not like Amarillo?

If they smell bad, I agree with Denny: toss them out.

If they smell ok just not like Amarillo, use them somewhere that an herbaceous (“grassy and vegetal”) hop would work.

Thanks Drew, that was my thinking too. That said my lack of experience often leads me to question my instincts and/or senses. If I’m expecting a tropical fruity aroma and I get something completely different I mentally classify them as bad (for that variety) but they don’t seem spoiled or rotten or …
I have never experienced hops exposed to heat and oxygen to the point that they could ‘spoil’, maybe this is what happens to Amarillo that has been abused?

Thanks Denny, I agree, I just hate to waste any kind of ag or food products if I don’t have to. You’re probably right.

Put them in your compost pile. Then they are not completely wasted.

Are you sure they are bad?

is not far from what I think hops in pellet form smell like. I can’t smell citrus and other specific fruit flavors when I smells pellets.

No I’m not 100% sure, I was comparing these to my recollection of a separate pouch of Amarillo I had. Those had a distinct citrus/orange aroma.
To your point, I did make a hop tea by steeping some pellets in the 170/180 range for 15 minutes and the tea had the same character.

If the hops are bad, that might not be a great idea
