I could use a little recipe feed back.
I have a bunch of hops in my freezer, that want to use up.
So I am thinking of brewing up an IPA
I do have some other hops I could use: Bramling Cross, Challenger, Sterling, and EKG.
How’s this look? I also plan on dry hopping. IPA (American IPA)
I would 86 the 10 or the 5 minute addition and blend the Simcoe and centennial across the additions. Adding sterling in the flameout additon would work well.
I can’t speak to magnum as a FWH as I have only used it to bitter.
My last IPA had 45 IBU @ 60, 1 oz @ 10, 1oz @ 5, 1 oz @ flameout, then 2 oz dry hops for 5 days. It was great. All the late hops were Amarillo w/ 9.3% AA. The beer was great. I served at a learn to brew day and my club friends and the new brewers all loved the beer. They floated the keg.
Some will say add even more hops.
I like IPA’s with just 1-2 flavor and aroma hop varieties. I think less is more there because the palette can better deal with the number of tastes in the beer. I noticed you have just two so that is good IMHO.
I use an American hop for bittering as well so that any flavors don’t conflict. That is minor.
I like a bitter bite in my IPA so I don’t use low cohumulone hops.
Overall it looks good. My recommendation would be to use the Magnum at 60 minutes instead of FWH and move one of your flavor additions to FWH (thinking the 20 minute Centennial addition - Cents are great for FWH). I’d consider using the Sterling in there as well. Needs dry hops too. If go with at least 4 oz of some combination of your flavor and aroma hops.
OK I’ll make a few changes
Don’t use magnum for FWHs
No need for 10 and 5 min, additions
Use 50/50 centennial, simcoe for other additions
Sterling @ flameout for aroma
Do a hopstand/whirlpool addition
Dry hop.
Thanks for the tips
