Kegerator Build/Set-Up Question

I’m going to be diving in to my upright frig-to-kegerator conversion this weekend and I think I have all the pieces and parts and have done all the research and layout necessary (we’ll see).

Over the next couple of months I will also be kegging my brews for the first time - first one likely around the 20th of this month. So I am sure I will be back as things come up and questions pop into my head. Like this one;

In all my reading of conversions and set-ups, I don’t recall anyone discussing whether you should “clean” the brand new, never used lines/faucets or if sanitizing them is sufficient.

I know this seems like a basic/no-brainer kind of thing (why not just clean 'em - you never know where they’ve been) but wanted to get input from those who have been there done that.

It’s up to you, but I would clean the faucets (and the shanks, etc.) and just run sanitizer through the lines.

Since it doesn’t really take long and lends piece of mind I just cleaned everything n then ran through some Star San solution.

Thanks and agreed.

Gravity ran some hot PBW-laced water through the connected shanks and faucets from the bottling bucket, opening and closing the faucet a couple of times. Let each combo sit in the PBW water for 10 - 15 minutes and rinsed all thoroughly, removing the faucets form the shanks.

Figure I’ll run Star San through from each keg once they’re installed and hooked up to gas.

You should be fine for now, but going forward you’re going to want a beer line cleaner. This link has the one I use; easy to fabricate and works like a charm. I use it every time I switch kegs:

I actually have that link/thread saved from researching through the forums several weeks ago. Plan on that every time a keg kicks as well.
