lagering

Never lagered before,  do I lager in the fermentor or in a keg uncarbomated?

I like to lager in a keg while force carbing. Works well for me.

Thanks

Yes.

Either is fine.

If you lager in the keg, do you transfer to another keg before serving?

I don’t. the first pint might be a bit yeasty but that doesn’t bother me too much.

I don’t usually either. I often use gelatin for lagers, wait a few days, then pump it all out.

same here.  if I am bringing the keg somewhere, I will jump the beer to another keg, however.

If I had the extra keg I would do this for travelling as well. seems like the ideal way to prevent travel cloudiness.

I lager on the yeast cake and then transfer off afterwards. Nice long 4 week lager/cold crash.

Sometimes I’ll cold crash for a week, then rack to keg to lager. Other times, I’ll rack to the keg right away after primary is done and lager while force carbonating. I don’t think it matters a whole lot. I know a lot of the German breweries recommend lagering on the yeast cake. I don’t think it matters much if you have a full and complete primary fermentation. Most important is time and cold.

I lager a couple weeks in carboy. Usually I can get the beer near crystal clear. Then add finings to keg and rack into that. Sometimes I will even fine in carboy and just rack the crystal clear beer into keg.
