Late 1800's early 1900's? Sandblasted and plated bottle cappers

I haven’t been happy with the new bottle cappers we’ve gotten. I’m a car guy and like things over-engineered if anything, plastic and tin bottle cappers aren’t cutting it for me. So I did some digging and was able to buy two identical old bottle cappers that are so well built I could probably also use to jack up my truck. I don’t know when they were made, if anyone has any more info on them that’d be really cool?

Here’s some photos of how I got them. I’ve already taken them to the sandblaster down the street from my office, so they look much better now. I dropped them off at the metal plater on Friday. They plate in a bunch of different metals, he suggested going with zinc, and I hope to have them back later this week

Looks like they will be cool!

Nice!

Just got them back from the plater!

Wow, that’s super cool.

Wow, those are awesome and they now look brand new! Great job

I’m just as impressed with the organization!

+1 I would love to have a brewery space that looked like that. course I guess when your business is making awesome garages spaces yours better be the awesomest.

Not a bad office space, ha. I’ve actually been trying to advertise with the AHA, although it’s not been the easiest to work out.

Wow. Those are very cool! Is plating expensive?

In total –
Capper 1 on ebay = $18 + 12 shipping
Capper 2 on ebay = $15 + 11 shipping
= $56

Sandblasting the pair = $25 http://www.astroblast1.com
Plating the pair in zinc = $75 http://www.belmontplatingworks.com

Two cappers that have already outlived me probably three times $156 / 2 = $78 each

Not bad. Good to know.

What is your wall system?

Also, where did you get the diamond plate? I need a really big piece (22" x 71"). I found it online but the shipping was WAY too expensive.

You should look for a local metal supplier.  They will charge more upfront but can include your piece in a bigger order and balance out the freight costs.  For me, at least, that usually makes more sense on really big and/or heavy stuff.

Sorry for the late reply (sadly life gets in the way of beer sometimes)
The good news is I’ve got my first batch of apple cider started at the office on Saturday  ;D

The wall system is this -

It comes in a bunch of colors, etc. Honestly the metal pegboard is an easier and cheaper option too (the stainless is really nice.)

Diamond plate that long isn’t really an option because of this shipping, it’d have to go truck freight over 48". You’d be better off splitting it into smaller pieces. What are you trying to do? These look really cool -

Or try custom pieces -

Very nice, found this one at the flea market for $10

$10 is a steal! I actually just broke one of the ones I had zinc plated, the handle snapped. I picked up another one that’s similar to the one you just posted, but haven’t put it to use yet (it’s still a bit crusty, needs some work) Ha, capped 250 bottles on Saturday with the one though!  ;D

Those look really sweet!  I’m surprised one of them broke - they do look way over-engineered.  But then again, I wonder how many bottles they’ve capped in their time?  I’d think about cutting a gasket to sit in the base so the bottles aren’t resting right on the metal.  Or maybe you could paint on some of that liquid silicone stuff that you can use to dip your tool handles in.

So that’s your garage design showroom?  What does your actual home garage look like?  Either way, it’s damn inspiring.  Really nice!
