I’ve never had problems with leaky keg lids until now. It used to be if a lid was leaking, I would simply turn it around in the other direction, and the problem was solved. But, this doesn’t always work anymore. Now, I find myself swapping out lids until I get one that won’t leak. I’ve even resorted to using keg lube, which I never had to do before.
How long before those black gaskets have to be replaced?
Visually, they look fine, but do they shrink over time?
I always use keg lube on all the O-rings. If you replaced the O-rings when you got your kegs you should never have to replace them unless they get damaged somehow.
I bend the lid or keg edge with a small crescent wrench to fix the leaks.
Williams Brewing sells a slightly thicker and softer lid O-ring that seals better, but is a little pricy. I wish I could find them at wholesale prices. Then I would buy them for every keg.
I am still sorta new to kegging (3rd batch doing closed xfers), but used to the pressure relief valve with ring you can pull, and not sure I like this style (acquired a couple kegs from a quitter), and wanted opinions- should I just replace them entirely, or do you just purge head space Co2 out the fill/pour line or ? TIA
I got some kegs with this style once, too - I replaced them with the pull-ring kind. It’s a small expense, but I wanted the ease of use (including purging head space more easily).
