While visiting Dublin this summer I fell in love with Guinness West Indies Porter. The Guinness website states " Guinness West Indies Porter was inspired by a recipe devised by our brewers back in 1801, when we first decided to export our legendary porter across the globe. The mother of what we now know as our Foreign Extra Stout, it was the pioneering brew that began it all, crafted with more hops to preserve the beer during sea voyages of four-to-five weeks in tropical climes". The current recipe yields a jet black color with a very thick creamy tan head formation and a robust nose of roasted malt, toffee and licorice. Taking a sip, the beer has a firm body up front followed by a hearty roast character, a delightful creamy texture, lush toffee, chocolate, and licorice. The finish is roasty, gently tart and refreshing. The alcohol content is 6% by volume. Would anyone have a recipe for this West Indies Porter? Cheers!
Guinness’ website yields the following:
Alcohol 6%
Calories 222kJ / 53 kcal per 100ml
Carbs 4.4g per 100mlIngredients
Water
Malted Barley
Barley
Roasted Barley
Hops
Yeast
And untapped gives the IBUs as 50.
So it’s probably not an genuine 1801 recipe since Guinness probably didn’t use unmalted barley (roast or otherwise) at that time.

So cool you made the time to go. I dream of biking through Ireland and Scotland one day and touring and tasting as breaks.
