Magic Hat #9 Clone

I brewed this and just now getting to taste it…really like it. Magic Hat#9 is a vermont brewer (#9 | Magic Hat Brewing Company).  found this recipe and went with it. must say its very close and tastes great. the apricot puree gives it the same fruit taste without the sweetness, very similar to magic hat #9.

anyway, here’s the recipe if interested:

You are dead to me…

huh???

Just funnin’ ya…I really hate that beer.  Of course, there’s no reason your tastes should necessarily be like mine.  Glad ya enjoy it!

got it…yeah pretty much you like or not. i’m not an IPA guy, and most don’t understand why.  just don’t care for high hopped beer is all. i lived in germany for many years, and just got used to certain types of beer…and its stuck with me.  a good hefeweizen or german pils suits me just about right ;D

I liked it when I first had it.

Then a while back I bought a six pack.  Terrible.  I don’t know if they changed something, or if I was just goofy when I first tried it.  I was really disappointed, because I remember it not being terrible.

If anyone wants it, they can come by and take the remaining bottles.

not bragging by any means, but i do prefer my version better than theirs. more body, nice aroma and dry finish. i hear you about the original magic hat vs today…that’s exactly what lead me to make my own.

Did they change brewers or something?

I remember when I first had it thinking it was different, but it was good.  Just not the same experience last time I had it.

no change in owners or brewery that i’m aware of. i suspect they changed the recipe for some reason, or they are cheating the process to pump up the volume.

Maybe your tastes have changed? I know that when I first got into craft beer 15 years ago or so, #9 was pretty damn good compared to what was out there. Now that I’ve really honed in on my palate, fruit-flavored beers (even well-made ones) don’t do a heck of a lot for me. MH still makes some fantastic beers (so glad they brought back Heart of Darkness this winter - one of my all-time favorite stouts), but my tastes have evolved far from the #9’s of this world at this point.
