I recently mailed some homebrews with FedEx to a friend out of state They claim the box was damaged and mailed it back the only thing that was missing was a can of Julius from treehouse brewing A week later I received a registered letter from FedEx saying that is illegal to send beer through the mail which I knew But how do you mail your brews to family or competitions out of state ?
It is illegal to mail beer. It is not illegal to ship it FedEx, but they don’t have to accept it for shipping. It depends on the attitude of your local FedEx people.
You have to seriously pack any beer you send so the box doesn’t get damaged.
It’s was packed good they never ask what I was shipping if they did I would say it was sofa Want gets me was the Julius was the only thing missing all the bottles and everything came back on dented in unbroken
I’ve had good luck with UPS. For competitions, I wrap each bottle and can in the electronics bubble wrap you find at Home Depot. Each sheet is 12" wide. Then I pack in the box inside a trash bag and pack a ton of bubble wrap or newspaper to make sure nothing moves.
When you sent Fedex, did it go Fedex all the way through? Sometimes Fedex is handed off the the USPS for delivery, depending on what service was selected.
Yes fedex ground this is the 1st time they claim the box was damage they return all the beer undamaged in a new box not even a broken bottle I was just surprised the only thing missing was the Julius from treehouse brewing I mail Homebrew to my old drinking buddy’s to try and get there reviews I did mail those beers ups and had no problems
Several years ago while I was still employed I worked in a shipping department and watched as a UPS guy gave a package covered with fragile stickers a hail Mary toss into the back of his truck.
While not appreciated by the customer that kind of thing is the only logical method for the drivers as they are closely monitored on how long their route takes to complete and they don’t really have the time to baby any packages.
I have a friend who drives for UPS. If their manager know that they purposefully mishandled a package, they get written up. They track their performance on the route by gps.
while stationed overseas… I sent home a 12pack of various belgian/dutch/german beers every month. All I used was a cardboard box and a ton of newspaper, all through the USPS. when I got home 2 yrs later, I found one box wrapped in cling wrap due to it got dropped and broke one bottle, all the liquid soaked into the newspaper, but I thought, that package must have been dropped hard cause I used ALOT of newspaper. these days, I would say do the same thing except wrap each bottle/can in bubblewrap first then either more bubblewrap or newspaper.
