I was just reading the article on the maltose falcons 50th anniversary IPA. Did anyone else find it surprising that it didnt call for dry hops? Looks like a nice simple recipe, I liked seeing just the old school c hops.
You have a good eye. We skipped adding dry hopping as this is a recipe for beginners and wanted to lessen steps. That said you could…dry hop for 3 days with hop of your choice for a nice aroma boost. Cheers.
And for anyone who wants the full recipe and resources go here.
To my mind, there’s nothing special about dry hopping technique. I did it on my very first brew. I feel like they’re being done a disservice by not getting instructed to make the best beer possible. Just my opinion.
Gasp! Very Sacrilegious
I agree with Denny- recipes should be presented in full as the recipe designer intended. I’d be OK with some “notes for the beginner” added by editors to indicate options like not dry hopping. It’s possible to keep accessibility for new brewers without dumbing-down recipes.
As the recipe designer - I can say that dry hopping was always presented in the recipe as “optional” (The source recipe didn’t have any so I kept to that to honor the spirit
And that’s fine. But it’s not something beginners should be afraid of.
