Well this has to be a first. I am brewing a blonde on my Foundry and I had wondered where my BruNWater sheet had gone earlier, figured it had blown away. Welp, it got mashed in for an hour @ 150.
Just want to make it’s OK to continue making this beer - it was color ink by the way.
I honestly have no idea if the ink will do anything harmful to the beer. My guess is not likely, given the small amount that was on the paper. But I do appreciate this post. I hate to laugh at someone else’s misfortune, but that is pretty funny. Thanks for sharing.
I’m pretty sure modern-day inkjet ink is non-toxic. I’d taste the wort to make sure there’s nothing horrible-tasting that’s out of the ordinary in there, and if nothing noticible then I’d go ahead with the batch.
Wondering how many ppg it will contribute:) Thought I’d either heard of or done every dumb thing possible but must have missed this one. How in the hell did it get in the Foundry?
Don’t think there’s a problem continuing with the brew, as long as you don’t mind a little bit of a cyan tint to it.
I apparently put it in the malt pipe to keep it from blowing away. Since the pipe you can’t see thru it, when I picked it up and placed it in the Foundry, I then went inside while the strike water heated. Then I guess it didn’t show itself at the top of the water when I mashed in. Crazy set of circumstances.
its too late now, but if i realized that just at the mash stage, as in i still hadn’t gotten my other equipment dirty yet i would actually stop the brewday.
i try to avoid toxic stuff as much as possible, but i think ive accidentally tasted ink in food/drinks before and it is incredibly nasty. that ye olde imagery of fish n chips served on newspaper… yeah, in reality newspaper ink on fried stuff is absolutely disgusting. it makes it near inedible for me.
