my basement brewery

i’m adhd-brouwerke and i wanted to show of my diy electric herms system that i’ve been building and remodeling for about 4 years now.

i can brew 60L in one batch and ferment 120L at the same time.

it seems that the pics from google pics won’t show directly but i used the links from my blog that seems to work.

Nice setup. So what styles do you like to brew best? I’m assuming many (or all) are Belgian styles, just curious.

whatever i feel like  ;D i recently made 240L old flemisch brown wich will go into my recently acquired wine barrel. and i will let is sit in the barrel for about a year and start a solera.

Cool. Same here. The oud bruin sounds great.

We’ll see in about a year

That lo0ks like a complete brewery to me! Awesome.

Does it get hot down there on brew-day?

20 degrees celcius

Wow. For a basement brewery that is an extraordinarily cool-temp brewhaus. I like! It’s often 40c+ outside when I brew in my kitchen and is a struggle to keep it below 30-35c in there. Best (most comfortable) brewing is between November and March in S. Texas.

I was dripping sweat yesterday while making a Czech Pale lager…! Two hour boil…

Killer setup.  Makes mine look like a pile of rocks, banana leaves, and a fire.

Hey, I know this guy. He’s a killer brewer! Death toll has risen to 20, recently.

Sorry, Michael, will let you be from now on…

when i boil i move the bk under the hood and open the door of the basement that takes care of most of the fog butt i’m going to get a second hood and that should’t hopefully keep all of the fog out. maybe i’ll get some alu duct and a hole in the lid of the bk.

How are you controlling fermentation temps?

I’m building a glycol chiller for my cct’s but at the moment i have an electric heater in the room with a stc1000. I heat the whole room at this time.

very nice! I just started building my electric berry as well. What are you using for elements?
Also, that sure looks like a flow meter you have back tge. Looks just like the one I’m eyeballing. How are you liking it?

The elements are stainless camco 5500w ,and te flow meter is for filling the kettle, butt it isnt working for the moment cauls the monitor only puts out 9v and the solenoid needs 12, so i have to put in a relay or transistor.

Any tips on installing an exhaust fan?  I’m going to do electric 5 gallon BIAB batches so will boil around an hour.  I’ll be doing it in the unfinished part of my basement which is a big storage/workout room that has 2 outside windows handy.  Thanks.

This is a pretty comprehensive look at basement ventilation for brewing/boiling:
