NHC 2015 First Round Results

Yeah, I have had mini BOS the past two years… no medals here either.  Only have one shot this year - which is great, but I am not getting any too optimistic about it.  Hopefully, one of these years, I can snag an NHC medal.

That’s why I plan to bring a bomber of my entry and it’s ‘scotch barrel aged’ variant to share with my table.  That way we can all complain about how it was obviously rigged since we’re drinking it and it’s awesome.  And the alcohol will help soothe my pain.  lol  But seriously, I consider even advancing pretty cool, but I’ve only been back on the competition scene a couple years now (after a 16-17 year hiatus), so I’m just getting back into the swing of brewing to style.  I’ll be sitting with the ZEALOTS, so if you’re interested in a wee nip, hit me up.

That’s exactly what happened to me 2 years ago, was pretty much in shock that I had medalled. It’s a pretty sweet feeling, plus you get all sorts of random stuff when you medal, too.

Got my American Barleywine through to the final round with a gold in NYC.  We shall see how she stacks up against the rest this year…

My AB made it through with bronze in Seattle.  See you in San Diego and good luck!

Right on! Congratulations and best of luck to you!

Gold with a mead.  I wish there were more entries.  On the bright side I was declared an instant winner in Category 86O (dump/oxidized) for beer

When do you think Philly will be posted?  I don’t want to keep hitting refresh for no reason…

Struck out again.

Where were you competing?

I wouldn’t expect anything until at least the weekend.  There were 6 regions judging this last weekend…hopefully Philly gets theirs in quickly.  They have always done great in the past.

edit:  4 of the 6 regions from this past weekend (including Philly) are now in verifying status!!

Zanesville. Judged, and stayed and heard the announcements and picked up the sheets. Always next year.

I had a couple beers at Zanesville.  Did you hear my name?

Sorry, I didn’t. I would have been clapping and cheering.

I know I got one through in Chicago. I also know that 3 of them didn’t make it through. Still waiting to  hear on the stout, though. The placing RIS’s close to my own, but I think one of them belonged to the coordinator. Of course, I’ll just have to wait for confirmation!

Nice.  I hope one of the other stouts is my own.

New personal low score of 15.5…on a beer that medalled last year. LOL
currently drinking a liter of it since I don’t have to save it for finals.

I have a Helles that I will gladly drink this summer. Too hop forward for style, and more like a Pilsner according to the judges. I used 4 oz of Hallertau in 11 gallons, hops are about 3.4 AA, 2oz FWH, 1 oz at 30, 1 oz at 10. Came to 16.6 IBU calcultated, malt leads the show, some hop flavor and aroma, and a neutral finish. They should taste my Pilsner, now that is hop forward!

Waiting on the Chicago results here… I was going to judge either there or Zainesville but last minute we decided we had just been doing too many road trips the past 2 months and decided to opt out.  Downside other than not judging is now I have to wait to know. lol

Mine would win then. I just walk by the pot with a pellet in my pocket.
