NHC 2015 First Round Results

With however many thousands of beers entered, someone is bound to be upset regardless of how it’s done.

That said, it is definitely irritating that the Chicago judging took place over a week ago and the scores are still be verified.  But whatever.  I have no time to volunteer so all I can do is wait.

I was thinking this year there wasn’t as much complaining as last year with some regions getting released early and it was kind of nice.  Oh well…looks like I have some comp entries that I saved to drink.

Good luck to all in the finals!

Rebrewing is a minor issue, IMO. Nothing I entered (and one T for that matter) need rebrewed. That’s only part of the point. The main one is that the entry windows should be staggered if their going to stagger the judging and results. There’s an assumption that the beer was all kept cold (it most likely was), but it was also out of the brewers’ hands for over 4 weeks before being judged. My issue is that verification should not take as long as it does. I’m guessing the last site won’t be verified until the end of this week. Maybe not, but I still don’t see what the road block is to get the results out within 48 hours of submission. Waiting for my site to be judged doesn’t bother me. Waiting 10 days from the end of judging for results does.

Well Chicago results just posted… Skunked. Oh well.

I see they’ve posted, but I don’t see any results on the brewing competition website.

Never mind… I figured it out.

Still no San Diego

Yeah no scoresheets or scores yet… Just if you won or not.

Yeah. I figured it out after I posted.

Coffee stout advancing.  3rd place in Chicago.

It was the best of my submissions, if I must admit that.

Woo hoo!!

Nice!

I’ll be shipping my Berliner and Altbier.

Nice job !

Thanks.  First time I’ve placed beyond mini-BOS in my limited experience in competitions.

Congrats to all the medalists and those who submitted good beers.  I judged this year and was very impressed, quite frankly, with the good quality of the submissions.  There were very few marginal beers in the three categories I judged over the two days.

And…I don’t have to re-brew (but I just might anyway!)

Reading trough the thread, I know I am in good company getting skunked.

Sometimes fortune is with you…Sometimes not so much. I admit the beers I put forth we’re not my best effort. They were just what I had around at the time. My meads I expected to advance as they were meads that have advanced multiple times in the past.  I knew Chicago was going to be hard on meads though.

I judged those, and the mini-BOS of those.  When you get your scoresheets back, my name is probably on there.  We didn’t do scoresheets for the mini-BOS but I did judge that category in the 1,2,3 placements.  So even if yours wasn’t in my flight, I obviously liked your beer!

Cool!  I’ll definitely be checking the score sheets closely.

I just keep waiting to see an email saying Zanesville results have fallen into shadow.

Got my Rum oaked Barleywine through. Meads were not handled in the best way in Chicago, IMO. Lots of folks without mead experience judging meads. For Traditionals, it’s particularly troublesome because they aren’t easy to judge. Can’t wait to see my scoresheets and get upset again…

Congrats on the Rum BW! Sounds delicious. It could be worse…you could still be waiting on San Diego results like me.

I’d like to see some changes to how meads and ciders are handled at NHC, either having them as a separate competition from beer or limiting mead/cider judging to 3-4 regions to condense the entries. It really isn’t fair with some regions not even having 3 meads/ciders in a category and then some having 10+.

o
I hear you, but what happens if the 3 in one region are better than the top ones from the region with 10 entries…you just never know.  I don’t know how they can correct for that.  I have had a lager beer get a 43 but not advance in a large competition because the competition is so stiff …just saying.
