North Carolina Beercation, looking for reccs

Hi all! My wife and I will be taking a beercation to North Carolina this October 13-20 and attending The 22nd Annual World Beer Festival Durham on Oct. 14.

Neither of us have been to NC and we’re looking for some recommendations. We’re not really fans of sours, but love pretty much everything else (hoppy IPA’s, Quads, Heff, Stouts, etc.).

We’ll be in Raleigh/Durham, Asheville, and Charlotte for 2-3 days each. Thanks in advance!

There are many, many more including cideries to visit. All of the above are breweries or brewpubs. There are all kinds of tap rooms and restaurants. Asheville has a sake brewery (Ben’s Tune Up) which also brews beer.

I really don’t think I can add anything to that…

Although, just as a side note, if you’re also into wine, the Yadkin Valley (West of Greensboro/Winston Salem Area) is a recognized AVA.  There’s several good wineries out there.  It’s been so long since I’ve been out there you might need to look them up, but as you go between Durham and Asheville you’ll be in that area.

The Biltmore Estate in Asheville has a winery… Ironically I think most of their grapes come from California.

You left out my favorite in Charlotte - Wooden Robot.  They are making some great beers.

Wines at Biltmore suck.

There are several good Triad (Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point) area breweries. Let me know if you want a few to hit.

I agree… that’s why I pointed out they aren’t local. Much better stuff out there.

Wow! Thanks so much for all the recommendations, all! And yes, we were into wine way before beer, so we’re eager to check those out as well.

Thanks again!

Google the cideries in NC, there are several and all are pretty good.

This article was posted yesterday. Would love to hear some feedback from the locals.

;D

Compare the article to my list above. I would also suggest you map the breweries. Most are not situated beside each other with the exception of those in Asheville.

You might try using this. The breweries are indicated in Red.

FWIW - as of today we have 264 permitted brewery locations in NC, you should strive to try them all.

I been to about 8 of them… lots of work yet to do!

How was the trip?
