I’ll be making a trip to the Outer Banks again, and my brother has offered to round up a bunch of beers for me to enjoy while I’m there. Can anyone suggest some excellent beers available in bottles somewhere in NC? I’m looking for variety and things that are available in the next couple of months. Thanks!
Didn’t you say he is in Durham? Send him to Sam’s Quick Shop, they will have the best selection. The buzzworthy seasonals will be very hard to find since they sell out. We do get a plethora of beers nowadays local, regional, and national.
If you have some time when you arrive it’s only a few miles from the RTP airport to Sam’s and you could grab whatever might scratch the itch. There are also some good bottle shops more or less on the way to the outer banks as you are driving toward the coast from RTP.
He’s south of Raleigh, but he has a friend who does the trip for him and I’m not sure where she is located. She drives all over the state getting stuff, it’s pretty awesome
We fly into ORF and take the short route down rather than fly into RDU.
Norfolk, bah humbug.
Yeah, but it saves us 2 hours of driving
I’ll list some that should be available as I think of them:
Lonerider Addie’s Revenge
Big Boss - High Roller, Night Knight, Deuces Wild, Monkey Biz-ness (a bit sweet this year), Warhawk, The Centaur (saison with Mosaic dry hop)
Foothills - Jade, Seeing Double
Pisgah - Valdez
NoDa - Hop Drop & Roll
Olde Hickory - Death By Hops
In looking at the list above I seem to have included several IPA variants.
All the Oscar Blues beers are brewed in Brevard, NC and to me are fresher and better than their Colorado counterparts. Gubna was revamped this year and should be out soon, Deviant Dales is darn tasty from Brevard.
Send your peeps to Sam’s Quick Shop in Durham and/or Tasty Beverage in Raleigh. If they go close to the time of your visit they could grab some growlers. They guys at either could give them some guidance, especially if you let them know what you are after.
Thanks Mike, I’ve passed the word along. If anything else occurs to you let me know, I’m looking forward to getting some good NC beers.
If your peeps still have some time, Sam’s opened a bottle shop just off I-40 in Durham which is easier to get in and out of and has a fantastic selection, including Growlers. It is a stand alone building.

Nice! I’ll pass it along, there’s still a little time.
That last pic has me drooling on a Sunday morning. I’m heating strike water in about an hour for the Big Brew( yes I’m a day late, no choice) Split Open and Melt RIS. My first stout attempt!
My brother told me today that he drove to Vermont and picked up two cases of Heady Topper for our Outer Banks gathering ;D
I’m trying not to get my expectations too high, but looking forward to trying it.
I believe Sam’s is the only store with Foothills Baltic Porter, of course the price of admission is $15 or so.
Heady Topper is good, but your socks will never leave your feet.
That’s what I expect, but being able to tick it off the list of beers I’d like to try will be nice.
Same thing applies for Pliny, but both are good beers. There are some from a couple Maine breweries that rival these two beers but I’m not saying which ones…I want them to be available when I want them without standing in line ;D
If I ever head to Maine I expect you to PM me some suggestions
