NY Bar Exam Success!

I found out Tuesday that I passed the New York bar exam on my second try. Hooray! I celebrated with much fine beer, including my 2009 bottle of Westvleteren 12. Now I am set to take the CA bar exam this July - unless any of you guys want to hire me to work in NYC, that is…

Congrats skyler!  That’s quite an achievement.

I thought about taking the bar exam once, then I found out it was about the law…not exactly what I thought

Congratulations!!  Maybe take the AL bar exam, and sue those $%^$% for not passing the homebrew legislation!

way to go.

I almost passed the bar yesterday, but then I decided to stop in for a quick one. not exactly the same though :)  big congrats, and good luck with the CA exam.

Congrats!  Now you’re ready for the BJCP exam.

+1  ;D

Sweeet!!!

Right-on Skyler,  congratulations!  It feels good when all that hard work pays off, ay?  Now that you know how to do it, California is a lock.

Congrats!

Awesome, congratulations!

Congrats. What kind of law are you going to go into?

Way to go man!!!  That’s no easy feat by any stretch of the imagination.  Cheers!!!

Congratulations!

Having passed the NY and CA bar exams myself, I think you will find CA to be the easier of the two (despite the fact that it is one day longer).  Compared to NY, the CA exam covers less subjects, does not include any state specific multiple choice, and the performance tests are pretty straightforward.

Best of luck.

Well, I was thinking of going to work with my friend and his Dad, who do a little of everything… But I would like to narrow my practice to tax, bankruptcy, and estate planning - like one-stop-shopping for rich old people. However, I had wanted to be a prosecutor in law school (turns out just about every state is too poor to hire new ADA’s these days), so I do know enough criminal law that I could take the odd criminal case if need be.

I have a friend who is a real estate attorney who has done very well for himself.  If I had it to do over again, I think I might go that route.

I have another friend who is a prosecuting attorney.  He likes what he does, but often is on call (from the police department) at all hours of the night and day including weekends.  The pay is not stellar either.  But, he is my go-to guy when I want to know what is legal, what is not, and how the cops come down on what is not.

Yeah, I have known a lot of prosecutors since I worked with so many in law school… very high job satisfaction, presumably due to the fact that they mostly worked 9-5. The pay is generally pretty good in California, especially the bay area, but those jobs are less than pipe dreams here in 2011, so I am just flatly not going to bother thinking about it… Real estate law is something else I could dabble in, it makes sense for someone doing bankruptcies, tax work, and estate planning to also handle some real estate work. Trouble is finding a firm to hire you these days… I could open up my own office, but then I would only be able to get what’s given to me, and my salary wouldn’t be very consistent for the first couple years. Not having a boss does sound pretty good, though.
