Origin of lager yeast

The BJCP presentation in Seattle made me want to go back and reread an article about the origin of lager yeast that I read a year or so ago.  The problem is that I can’t recall whether it was in Zymurgy or BYO, and searching indexes on both didn’t turn anything up.  Does anybody recall the article and which mag it was?
