Two-year old Orval, perfectly chilled and served in a chalice, on a cool summer evening. Best. Beer. Ever. Not even a mountain high of Yakima hops could top that.
Orval is one of my very favorites for sure.
I love it as well, although it can sometimes be hit or miss consistency wise. They always taste good but the flavor has varied for me depending on the age of the bottle I get.
Supposedly its earth shattering at the monastery.
I admit the quality can be uneven. I have even had gushers. But last night’s one was incredibly good.
Not sure what you mean…
Agreed it can fluctuate a bit. But when it’s good, it’s easily one of the best beers on the planet.
Yes, it is earth shattering at the brewery…
Nice!
+1. Awesome picture.

This.
The earth shatters and the guy closes off his nose with his fingers?
They serve a soft limburger cheese with it, which is not in the stupid cellphone camera view.

Ha! Limburger is a tough one to put down. At least without raw onions and mustard!
Orval is a special beer. There are few others that I would hold in the same regard, and the majority of them are vintage or limited-release. There aren’t many beers like Orval that I could just grab at one of several local package stores on any given evening.
This one is not so good. From my basement, two years old. No foam to speak of. Rather thin taste.
Not enough CO2
