Out of ideas.

So I just got a new tap rite regulator hooked it up tested for leaks. Nothing at all. Problem is this…if I out my ear up really close to the regulator I can hear the tank running gas still. Even minutes later.  Sounds like a tiny leak but I’m positive its not. Anyone ever heard of this before?

Its almost like I can hear this faint whisp. Its been 5 minutes and its lessening. Still there though. Tank would have run out long ago if it was a leak but for months this tank has been going strong

Shut off the tank and see if you still hear it.

I did. It stops immediately

I would assume it is a leak then.  Did you check the connection between the CO2 tank and the regulator?

I’m really just asking the question here, but could the leak be inside the regulator?  A pin hole in the diaphragm or a seal?  Maybe the pipe going into the regulator head?

Sorry that I only have questions and no answers.  I am intrigued to see what others think.

This is a brand new taprite regulator. I tested all connections and no leak what so ever. My c02 tank would be empty for sure if it was a leak. I have no idea if its leaking inside the diaphram.  My old one sounded the same to Me. I’m assuming the new one is fine. I put bubbles everywhere. Also if it was a leak the sound would continue but this goes away in a couple minutes.

Maybe too obvious, but is there a nylon washer between the reg and the tank?

I don’t think so

BINGO!  When you get a tank refill, it should come with a nylon washer to go between the tank and regulator.

The sound isn’t coming from that area. Make a difference. Sounds like its coming from the regulator body. I also added bubbles to that area as well and didn’t notice a leak. Still get a washer?

The tank washer is key!

Not sure about the Taprite brand but not all regulators need a washer.
Some have the “washer” built into the connection.

Both of my regulators have a washer built into the tail piece that connects to the tank.  I tried using the washer that came with a refill once and it leaked like a sieve.  No experience with the Taprite brand so can’t say.

I only know that my rig is silent when sealed up and not recharging a keg.

This is it

Details say that it doesn’t need a washer at all so I don’t know what to think.

take the entire thing and submerge it in water.  look for bubbles.  not the best for the equipment but you’ll find a leak.

No Thx. Brand new. Guaranteed not to leak they said.  Covered in bubbles and saw zero leaks

You said in the first post that “this tank has been going strong for months”. Question, going strong for months with this new regulator?
My experience has been that when there is a leak, even a small one, the tank is empty in just a few days.

Ya no leaks. Still 75% full and I’ve done multiple kegs

if the tank seems to be fine. and the only issue is the sound and this is not bothersome unless you are close, i wouldn’t worry about it.  like a creaky joint. if doesn’t hurt and still works fine. i don’t care about the noise
