I am going to do a beer for the neighbours. I’ve put this off long enough but I guess I need to do a BMC style just to get it done.
So, my question is simply this. Is there a ratio of how much rice a lb of pils malt would convert?
My first (and hopefully last) recipe attempt is just.
7 lbs pils malt
2 lb minute rice
1 oz Hallertau (5.6% AA) at 60 mins
WLP Mexican Lager yeast.
Any problem with this converting over a 1 hour mash at 150? I don’t really want to get 6 row just for this.
Thanks
You didn’t say who’s Pils malt, but that would work.
The weighted average would be (7110+20)/9=85.6 oLintner, which is more than enough to convert. Munich II (in the 10 L color range) can be in the 30-40 range and can convert itself.
Weyerman Pils. I tracked down the Weyerman distributor here in Ontario a while ago so I could buy direct from them and avoid the 40% LHBS upcharge. But, they only handle Weyerman, OIO 2-row and Muntons so that’s what I use.
