re-cork?

I am trying to decide whether to recork a couple of bottles or not.  I bottled on Saturday.  All the 750’s went perfectly.  I bottled 5 - 375’s to both sample the beer’s progress and maybe enter a competition.  I did not adjust the cork depth for the 375’s so 3 of them have high corks - too high to put cages on.  Would you re-cork or not?

If it matters, bottle conditioning is in progress.

would there be a problem with cutting the tops off of the corks?

Is there a simple way you can force the corks in further? The fact that the rest of your 375’s are fine means you could possibly just use whatever corker you have to drive them the rest of the way down.

Personally I wouldn’t mess with the cork. You can do an older finish by creating a cage with twine tied over the cork. It does the same thing as the cage, you just need to use a sturdy twine.

I might try driving the corks down BUT: I would wrap the bottle in a bathe towel on the outside chance they could break. If its a highly carbed beer I’m not sure I would risk it.

Thanks guys.  I decided to go ahead and try it last night.  One of them worked great, the other one went through 6 corks and never seated right.  I assumed it was a bottle issue.

Surprised not all bottle will behave the same.
