I have Nugget (doing well), Columbus (doing well) and Centennial (few hops after several years).
Nugget hops are always plenty.
2021 was an odd year. We had early warm weather. Hops are growing wildly. We get severe cold temps. Hops die. I trim to ground level. Finally, we have a normal Spring and hops grew, but nowhere near enough hops to use.
2 years ago Columbus were enough to brew the AHA Columbus Pale Ale recipe. Unfortunately the brew was gone too quickly.
For 2022 I plan to plan plant a Cluster rhizome as I understand Cluster is a native N. American hop that, once established, is basically a weed (Meaning can’t kill it. Very hardy.)
Recommendations for the best online source for a Cluster rhizome?
On a tangent, don’t expect much from the Centennial. It’s extremely finicky. Growers here in the PNW have told me that it’s the one hop they wish they didn’t have to grow. But it’s a great hop, there’s demand for it, so they do. And there probably won’t be much in the way of any rhizomes available til spring.
Crosby farms has the best selection that I’ve seen. They also sell live plants (supposedly this gives you better 1st year growth, I haven’t tried them myself), and “jumbo” size rhizomes.
