Hi,

I will be at a conference in Salt Lake City Nov 13-18. I will be staying near the convention center and will not have a rental car (but don’t mind public transit if not too time consuming of my limited free time). I have checked out beermapping.com & BeerFly but would like to know of any other suggestions of good beer places, perhaps too new to show up on those sites. Also if anyone knows of any local beer events or beer dinners that week I would like to hear of them.

I can recommend Squatters on 300 South.  Nice place, good food, lots of excellent Utah beer to choose from.  Have fun.

The Desert Edge is an old haunt of mine. They do some nice beers and it’s not as crowded as Squatters. You could get there pretty easily on the light rail.

I used to hang out a lot at Juniors, but that was when it was in its old dive location. No idea what it’s like now, but it’s right downtown. It was one of the first places in town to get Guinness on tap, which wasn’t until 1995, or so.

They have a pub in the airport too. My wife got to go there a few months ago between planes.

I read it so I can point and laugh  ;D I lived there for over 20 years and I still marvel at how restrictive the beer laws are.

Strange laws, indeed.  You can’t have a beer at the bar unless they put some food in front of you, for one.

I was impressed that the brewers there could coax a lot of flavor out of session beers.

I agree with Jeff, back in the day I always wondered how they made low abv brews so tasty. Red Rock was the place I went when I last visited and that was a long time ago.

You can if the bar has a full liquor license. The state does what they can to make those hard to get, though.

Red Rock was walking distance from Squatters.  The Pils at Red Rock was very tasty on a hot summer day.
