Hello all,
I have an IPA that has been in primary for just over 2 weeks. I am checking the gravity and it looks like it is done fermenting. Planning to bottle on Saturday or sunday (in 4 or 5 days). Just bought a new (my first) carboy and I am wondering if it is worth putting this beer into secondary for such a short amount of time. Love to know your thoughts.
Thanks!
Generally secondary has no benefit and has the additional possibility of increasing oxidation. Most brewers do not transfer to secondary.
Yeah, unless you need to free up your primary so you can start another batch, I’d leave it alone.
Are you dry hopping?
Nope!
Doesn’t the sediment start causing off-flavors if left too long?
The trub may begin to cause off flavors in two to four months, with lighter beers. You’ll want to bottle before a month is up though to keep hop flavors and aromas from fading.
