Something fun I am doing today

We brew a schwarzbier as one of our flagship beers, it’s made up of a blend of Best Munich I, II, Pils and some Briess midnight wheat (and just a touch of caramunich 60L) and, from a 12 bbl batch I took 14 gallons out of the grant and ran it off into my homebrew kettle and boiled it down to 12 gallons. FG is about 1.093 and about 27 BUs. Going to ferment it with our lager yeast and put it on at the tasting room as “Brewer’s Reserve”.

I can’t wait to taste it!

Man, I’d pay cash for that. Sounds awesome. I could see that as dangerously drinkable.

will be called ‘I see your Swartz is as big as mine’?

sounds tasty

Also getting to try my 60L spiedel today. Just got 4 of them in. They are pretty darn cool.

I’m curious to hear what you think of the speidels. I’ve got my eye on some of those down the road a bit.

I have the 20L and 30L Speidels and absolutely love them. They are super heavy duty with built in handles (at least the smaller ones have handles) which is very convenient. Also love the wide opening for cleaning. The only drawback is that they aren’t clear, so you can’t see whats going on inside. I’ve had mine for about two years and will probably get another one at some point.

First blush and I love them. Only complaint so far is there needs to be a easier way to add a thermowell. But that is something I can easily mod. Be nice if there was already an option though.

I’m with you there. I hate drilling holes into stuff. MoreBeer does not sell replacement lids as far as I can tell, so a mistake may not be easily remedied.

I’m just going to fashion a bung for the lid.
