The Zymurgeeks brewed our 3rd Steinbier on Sunday. Lots of work, but a ton of fun! We used the stones to boil the wort, but I’m pushing to heat the mash with stones next time as well.

That’s one thing I’ve never done - just can’t bring myself to explore new ways of burning myself.

We’ve been very lucky. The club did a test run with water to make sure the rocks were OK. One fractured in the fire, but that was it. We make sure to work very slowly to keep as safe as possible. And only one boil over!
I’ll post a taste review after it’s fermented.
