Strange fermentation!

Weirdest fermentation I’ve ever had.

My standard Helles recipe, 5.5 gallons @ 1.050 SG, Diamond Lager yeast 2 packs, 2 weeks @ 52F.

All blowoff activity ceased, so I took a gravity reading yesterday and got a reading of 1.085, checked against 3 hydrometers, all the same. Not only that but the beer is now very dark, almost like a stout.

Smells and tastes normal for a Helles. What gives? Any ideas?

Surely that’s a misprint: 1.085?

1.085, checked against 3 hydrometers.

Unless the hydrometers are sitting on the bottom of your sample tube, you’ve got some other measuring error going on. When you argue with physics and common sense, you lose every time.

I know, I know, it is April fool’s day

Too obvious?

Yup!
