I’m building my first keezer. I picked up a working 15 cu ft freezer for cheap on local CL. However I have run into a challenge. The hinges are not “normal” chest freezer hinges. Has anyone made a Keezer out of one of these? What did you do for the hinges?
I was thinking of building the back corners with blocks of wood, drilling a hole and just sliding the hinge post into the block.
Take a look at my posting on homebrewersassociation forums…
I designed the collar and used same if not sim freezer to build it too…the hinges gotta go…
They unbolt and slide out…
The lid you have to take apart and remove the springs…I used pliers and force/ twisted off …be careful… Under tension keep your face away…its easy once you see what I’m talking about

Another reader built a collar based on my plans and came out great!
Thanks … Yours looks great too and you managed to keep the hinges… I took mine (hinges) out as my freezer is an old 15.4 cu.ft Whirlpool that I acquired…and i didn’t care if it goes back to freezer use…
The collar on these just sit on the frame…the build/ plan is such that the weight of the box on the additional insulation strip just makes it stick! But if your lid is heavy as in really heavy then the DAP and Peel is the way to go. I’ve never heard of that…but sounds like it sticks and then you Peel it off …Velcro also would Work…
Well I wanted to help you out and looks like you made a very nice Keezer!
Cheers!
