In process of bottling my second attempt at home brewing, this batch is a Summer Ale (kit) and when preparing my priming solution I have discover I used 4 cups of water with my German Oktoberfest instead of the called for 2 cups. Had 4 gallons of brew giving me 46 bottles in carbonation.
How much will this effect the outcome of the in bottle carbonation? Will my first attempt be a fizzless failure? Yes practice makes perfect. I’m starting to believe my knowledge about home brewing is starting out like my computer knowledge… learn thought mistakes.
A little advice would be greatly appreciated.
2 extra cups in four gallons is nothing. You could almost an extra gallon and you’d still like it. Relax don’t worry have a homebrew
Yep, you’ll be fine
Not a problem. But you can use as little water as you can get away with for boiling your priming sugar. I usually try to keep it under a cup.
+1. The solubility for sugar at high temperatures is more than 4:1. So if you’re using a typical 125 g to prime, you can use less than 30 mL (1 fl oz) of water.
I’ve found success when using the sugar solution still hot. I find that it mixes better. I also prefer to use about 2 cups of hot solution so that it isn’t as viscous and it tends to mix more thoroughly.
I like a little extra water for that reason also. Made it too thick recently and it took forever for the syrup to pour out of the pan.
+1 to this!! I’ve had several batches were I used warm or cold water and found half my bottles were under carbonated and the other half bottle bombs.
