Who is a famous person that you've had a beer with?

Mine is Billy Carter back in 1977.  In the early days of the Carter years, we did a tour of Plains Georgia.  We took a side expedition onto the side roads and soon located the Carter family home.  We knocked on the door and Lillian answered the door.  Billy came out later and there on the front porch was a keg of PBR.  This was before Billy Beer so he was then known to be a Pabst drinker.  Pabst at the time supplied him with an unlimited supply of beer.

What’s your story?

Not really a person, but I did have a beer on the 87th floor of the Empire State building.

If Denny drank alone - could he count that?

I got nothing, not even a beer in a really tall building.

-OCD

I’ve met a ton of famous people but never drank with them.

Likewise.  Although, if I could drink with one, it would probably be Billy Joel.

Eugene Cernan.

I don’t think he’s used to getting recognized in bars.

I guess for me it would be **Ringo Starr. **
I worked with him in a TV series on PBS 20 years ago.
In my wrap party photo with him, I had a beer …but his drink of choice (at the time) was CocaCola and VVVSOP brandy (in a styrofoam cup!).

On a more serious note, the month after we wrapped production he went into rehab (I wasn’t responsible) and he has managed to stay clean and sober ever since. Kudos to him for that.

By the way, he was a really great, sweet guy, great to be with…and just about what you would expect given his general WTF image and attitude.  A really nice guy.

It was, to say the least, quite a rush to have the opportunity to work  with him.  A high point in my career, to be sure.

I guess it depends on what you consider to be famous. If it means someone who is known by a certain number of people they’ve never met, I suppose I can name 3:

-Peter Bouckaert from New Belgium
-Mike McColgan, singer from the Street Dogs and original singer of the Dropkick Murphys
-Joe Stange, author of Around Brussels in 80 Beers (and other stuff like thirstypilgrim.com). He’s probably laughing already from his inclusion here.

Tracy Lawrence, before he was famous…does that count?
Jason D Williams, Played in a band with his bro- Tom- in a studio and JD would come in a jam with us
when in town to visit fam and friends, got him to sign my guitar-th guy is nuts but he’s good. I
almost converted th bass player to a homebrewer and had them all buyin Bass ale and one guy
fell in love with Newky( not sure why on that one) before I left th band-spreddin th love
Matthew

Was it when he was the conductor in Thomas and Friends?

That’s the show.  After Ringo left, George Carlin stepped into the role.  Another really kind, classy guy.

Shirly Manson from the band Garbage.  I received back stage passes for one of their concerts and was able to hang out and chat with them after their show.  I had beers with the entire band but didn’t talk to the dudes that much. ;D

I’m with you there man!  Is Shirley as gorgeous in person as she is in pictures?  That sure beats my Billy Carter story.

I partied it up with Vains of Jenna a couple years ago when they were on the Viva La Bamm tour.

hmmm

Just a few

Joey Ramone (on several occasions in several places but most notably Pauls Lounge)

George Benson (well he had a glass of Wine)

Peter Gabriel (A long time ago at the Ritz in NYC)

Edward Ellington (Dukes Grandson who I used to work with)

and Many More…

Now peter Gabriel would be a guy I could enjoy having several pints with over the course of an evening . . Or Phil Collins, or Tony Banks, or Mike Rutherford, or Steve Hackett . . . .

Honestly… I did not know it was him until almost the end of the conversation that is the magic of that night.

I could start listing musicians that I have had a beer with on here but honestly I have an unfair advantage over most of ya

This was around 95 or 96 and yes, she was gorgeous!  She was very down to Earth, I enjoyed talking with her.  And her Scottish accent had nothing to do with it.

I had a beer with actor James Marsden, who played cyclops in the X-Men movies.  He was also in Superman Returns.

I had several beers with country music figures when I lived in Nashville.  Terri Clark bought me a beer at Tootsie’s once…haha.

Oh, and this is pretty lame, but I’ve had beers with Gavin Rossdale of Bush, the guys in Maroon 5, Sister Hazel, Leigh Nash of Sixpence (I grew up with her ex-husband) and plenty of other rock n roll has-beens back when I was playing in my band.

edit: I just remembered that I had a beer with Josh Homme in NYC when my band opened for Eagles of Death Metal.

I love the red hair…
