WLP810

I ordered a palisade steam beer extract kit off the web along with WLP810 with an ice pack.
But due to weather my package came a day late.

The yeast was cool to the touch and the ice pack was completely melted.
Would you guys risk it and still use the yeast??

What’s your outside temperature been like?

I’m sure it’s fine.  But yeah, what’s your local weather been like?

Well, you should be making a starter anyhow, so do that and it will let you know if your good to go

If the yeast was cool to the touch, then the ice pack did its job.
But, as noted earlier, make starter, then you’ll know that you are pitching plenty of yeast.

Ah its neen in the mid 70’s when the yeast arrived.

Yeah, i usually don’t make starters for low gravity beers because i don’t have a stir plate.

But u guys are right im going to make a yeast starter, but will it impart a different flavor due to the yeast getting to hot?

My stirplate broke and I don’t feel like replacing it. I’ve been using shaken starters with good success. The only tough part is timing for peak activity. I missed high krausen by about 8 hours because it took longer to get down to 50 than I expected.

I feel you on that one bud…I’ve done two hand shaken starters as well.

You’ll be fine with a starter.  There is a big difference between a fermentation getting too hot and a packet of yeast getting a bit warm.
