Ok… I will use a starter on some of the bigger beers, but in a mead, is the starter necessary, desired, or not used?
I am planning my first batch, and any info would be awesome. Thanks.

Liquid or dry yeast?
Meads are generally high gravity, so make a starter if you would make a starter for a similar gravity beer. You can use pretty much any sugar for your starter, but honey is probably preferred. Don’t neglect nutrients for your starter either.
I am not sure about pitching rates because I do not know the gravity of the must you plan to
inncoulate. But if you do not want to make a starter you could just pitch 2 or 3 or 4 packs and
forego the starter…just sayin.
