Hello, I’ve just started trying to harvest/ wash some yeast, and I’m a little unsure of my results. For this batch, I split 6 gallons of wort into two ss brewtech mini’s, then added 8 oz of boiled and cleaned water. I swirled and decanted into 8 oz mason jars, but I’m not seeing any separation of yeast and trüb. Did I need this up, or do I not have a lot of tub in my fermenters? I typical use whirlfloc and leave a fair amount of trüb in the kettle, but I guess I expected to see some in the fermenter. I also fined with gelatin, I’m not sure if that’s throwing things off. Thanks!
Looks like you have pure yeast in your jars if the pictures were taken after a few days in the refrigerator.
That is a lot of yeast. You won’t be seeing any separation into layers.
I agree.
Keep the caps loose. Or open them every couple of days to release pressure.
Timely post. I recently saved a some yeast from a stout that I brewed up using 2 packs of 1332 and I don’t see the separation that I normally do between trub, yeast and beer. I was about to toss it. Now I will hold onto it and just make a starter before using it to make sure its going to take off. Thanks!
