Hey homebrewers! I’m excited to announce that I’ll be moderating an exclusive Zymurgy Live interview with Randy Daniels and Kc McKinney, the talented brewers who took home the coveted Homebrewers of the Year title at the 2024 National Homebrew Competition!

These two brewing masterminds will take us behind the scenes of their journey—how they developed their award-winning beer, their creative process, and the brewing techniques that helped them claim the top spot. Whether you’re a seasoned brewer or just starting, this is a session you won’t want to miss.

This looks cool!
A bit off-topic, but I thought I’d mention that when I go back through recent Zymurgy Live events, I’m not seeing any way to access recordings. Some have slides, but no presentation recording. Some have no slides. Am I missing something obvious, or is it just not available?
Unfortunately, the middle of the afternoon on a Thursday (which seems to be the usual timing) is not conducive to me ever being able to attend these presentations live! I’m a bit bummed that this feature of membership is not accessible to me (and presumably any members who have work hours at that time). (darn it, I should have included this in my comments to AHA last week!)

Kind of off topic but I once had the YouTube video archives not show up when I rejected all the cookies when I first visited the AHA website. You might consider logging out and logging back in and accepting all cookies. Or try a different browser. I took a screenshot of my last Zymurgy Live and it should look like this with a embedded YouTube video as the recording archived at the bottom of the page. Good luck.

Weirdness! Yeah, I have tried with Chrome and Firefox, in privacy/incognito modes, cleared caches, etc., and still no luck on getting them to show up in either browser. Nothing on mobile, either. There is an empty space at the size of a video - I can inspect the code and get the Youtube link, so that’s at least a workaround. Something is blocking it from displaying for some reason…(if anyone has additional thoughts, I’m all ears – but that’s a separate thread, probably)

Couple of questions…
-What do they see as the primary factor in award winning brews…recipe design or process… I know they are both important but which carries more weight.
-Do you focus on one recipe and brewing the heck out (multiple variations) of it to refine it or have some other process to make the brew better. Or possibly scatter approach and see what sticks?
-Any special process or something you are super particular about that you believe gives you an edge?

Gerad, good questions. I’m excited to talk to them about their process and how their recipe came about. Having judged Saisons in local competitions and the Indiana Brewers Cup I’ve found it a difficult balance to strike in everything the BJCP is looking for.

Also if you haven’t checked it out their beer’s recipe is here in the AHA recipe Alementary Archives. Tank 1587 Saison Recipe | National Homebrew Competition

Other brainstormed names I considered but rejected to refer to the recipe archive:

  • Lager Library
  • Gastronomicon
  • Cookbookery
  • Culinary Codex
  • Fermentologist’s Folio
  • Brewmaster’s Benedictionary
  • Zymurgical Zeitgeist
  • The Maltster’s Manifesto
  • Hop Hypothesis Handbook
  • Libations Lexicon
  • The Ale-chemical Almana

Just bumping this again as we down to only 9 days. If you can’t join us live get you questions in now.

Bump for tomorrow! Join us live or drop your Q’s here to get some A’s

Lookin forward to this TODAY. And yes members can access recordings. One of the membership team with respond with details to help troubleshoot any members who experience access roadblocks.

Hey Andy. That seems to be an odd issue that I’m not sure we’ve heard before. This might take some extra troubleshooting, but we’d love to to help get this fixed for you so you don’t have to inspect the source code to find the video. Do you mind emailing info@brewersassociation.org with a brief summary of the issue and a screenshot showing the issue?

Update for those following along – it now works in Firefox, but not in Chrome. Could be rando upgrade issue / fix…
