Put on a motorcycle trip, stopped in Hoodsport, WA for the night. Picked up a sixer of “Joe” to go with cigars. I chose it because it advertises Simcoe, Amarillo & Mosaic hops. Wonderful hop flavor. Seriously one of the best IPAs I’ve had
I tried this a couple of weeks ago. What a great beer and first impression from 10 Barrel which just started getting distributed here.
The lack of comment due to 10 Barrel being owned by the Evil Empire? Probably not, but I wonder. Regardless of who makes it it is seriously tasty stuff! And frankly… Aw nevermind.
Our liquor store just started carrying a couple of their beers. Haven’t tried either yet simply because I don’t buy bottles this time of year.
Lol. Yeah I hear you but good beer is good beer. AB-INBEV also owns Goose Island which makes awesome Belgian styles and some kind of Barrel aged stout you may have heard of ;). Miller Coors owns Leinenkugel which has some outstanding beer in the “Big Eddy” line.
I bought a six today. They got warm on the way home. Not sure who likes warm beer, what a rip off. But I’ll try another after the chill just to be fair.
Tried some Joe the other day and wasn’t a big fan. I bought it because those are some of my favorite hops, but it had a “dead” (don’t know how else to describe it) almost oxidized taste.
I have stopped buying IPA in cans or bottles, as it all tastes “dead” to me anymore. I only seem to enjoy IPAs fresh out of a keg.
I’m pretty much there myself, unless I know it to be very fresh. I prefer my IPAs out of the keg against most bottled or canned ones.
Just picked up a 6 pack of Sculpin…far from dead!
Agreed, I have had Sclupin in bottles and cans and both were wonderful! Unfortunately, I have not had the pleasure of it on draft, but I am sure it is equally if not more wonderful
They were giving away samples at NHC…incredible! Unfortunately, due to my meds, I couldn’t try the grapefruit version.
Found the grapefruit here in bottles, tried it and went back for more! Sorry your meds kept you from it, but you gotta stay safe with health issues
Grapefruit sculpin is surprisingly awesome. The grapefruit makes it taste and drink like a session beer. Dangerous
I think it was better than the non-grapefruit version. It mellowed the sharpness of the bitterness.
I must have gotten a fresh six-pack. The bittering was low to medium, but the hop flavor was among the highest I’ve tried. It was even good the second day after riding around in 100* heat in a saddle bag.
Kinda glad to hear that!
We’ve recently been getting the sculpin and GF sculpin in cans and I can’t believe how fresh it tastes. I do like the grapefruit but prefer the regular although my girlfriend always chooses the grapefruit if she’s picking it out. The grapefruit is just a teensy bit, I don’t know: extracty? perfumy?. Something. But still good.
My favorite was the Habanero Sculpin, but I’m twisted like that.

Steve, I just gave this a second try. Turns out that maybe it’s not entirely their fault that I got it too warm on the trip home. And now that it’s been in my fridge for a few days the temp is much better. Surprisingly, the cold temp seems to have greatly improved the drinkability. Its one of the best Budweiser IPAs I’ve tried.
Its one of very few piney beers that I’ve liked. I don’t normally care for that. I think there’s just enough citrus behind it to make me like it.
Overall a real good beer. But since it’s a Budweiser, I’ll give it a 13.5 Nearly undrinkable and beware that they don’t stay cold on hot days, and the barrel doesn’t turn blue so there’s really no way of knowing if it’s cold or not.
