I am sure I saw 10 gal black plastic kegs (or plastic coated) with Sanke fittings. But, I’ve been looking on line and I can’t find anything that looks even remotely like what I think I saw. Was I dreaming? I need more kegs and I’m thinking some 10 gals would be good because I’m doing a lot more 10 gal batches. Any suggestions?
Does it need to be Sanke. I’ve seen new 10G ball lock kegs online.
I do not think you have seen 10 gal Sankey kegs.
They are 1/6 BBL (or about 5 gal).
1/4 BBL / 30 Liters (about 7.7 gal)
1/2 BBL about 15.5 gal.
Check out these: http://www.plastickegs.com/
I wonder why they say their kegs are not suitable for homebrewing - because with cornies becoming less available, they could probably sell a lot of these.
Probably because they only come with Sanke fittings.
Homebrewers can’t buy sanke fittings? I have a couple. If I had a bunch of those kegs, I would turn one into a keg washing rig. If that’s the only reason, they should change their copy and start marketing to homebrew shops. Or modify the top with corny fittings, either way getting a keg for less than $120 new is going to be attractive to people.
Doesn’t have to be Sanke and I bet I was looking at 1/4 barrel kegs and assuming 10 gals just because they were about that size.
Thanks and I’ll keep looking.
I’d always thought the “not for homebrewers” had less to do with having Sanke fittings and more to do with the fact that Sanke kegs don’t have the large removable “hatch” for cleaning like cornies do.
It could also be “not for homebrewes” do to them not selling singles(have not looked at the site) or they are a wholesaler and require you to have an ein to purchase from them. It makes their life easier but they lose out on business.
Dumb question but how do commercial breweries clean sanke kegs? Cornies are nice and easy but I’m starting to do more 10 gal batches and I’m liking the look of those 50 L kegs. I do 23L batches so that would work really well. They do say min order of 5 but that’s ok.
I sent them a question about why not for us. Just letting you know so they don’t get inundated with questions from homebrewers.
I’ll let you know what they have to say.
i had asked that very question in a sister thread on plastic kegs. i really like the 2.5 gallons and if i have to learn how to remove a sankey so be it
I actually emailed and asked.
"Steve,
The kegs are not meant to be used for fermentation which is why we do not recommend them be used by homebrewers. If you are using them for dispensing the beer only they will be suitable.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Best regards,
Claudia Thatcher
Sales Manager"
That’s all, I’d be likely to buy one if I couldnt get a SS one anymore.
It’s not like most of us ferment in kegs. They should really say “not suitable for fermenting”.
If I get a reply, I was going to suggest that they change that to exactly what you suggest Tom. I think they could be missing out on a real opportunity if people just walk away when they see that. Now, will they ship to Canada…?
they do say minimum order of 5, but hell, i would take five of them
okay, just requested quote for 5 of the 1/12th bbl
It is a shipping cost that will kill the deal. They ship freight only and you pay for one skid/pallet. For me one pallletshippi g was $300+. They are in CA.
I do like the kegs. You clean Sankey kegs with keg washer.
Out of curiosity, how much were the kegs themselves? If cheap enough, it may be something worth looking into for some homebrew shops.
